Summary

Under general supervision, provides a range of technical support services in preparation of technical or scholarly publications and documents. May train, lead and/or guide the work of others.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Inputs data, edits, and formats technical and non-technical documents such as grant proposals, manuscripts, articles, course descriptions, course materials, reports, promotional materials, and correspondence.
  2. Inputs data, edits, formats, and produces camera-ready copy for publication, including newsletters, annual reports, booklets, course catalogs and schedules, and manuals.
  3. Drafts, designs, and produces complex, computer-generated forms, tables, graphs, and/or promotional materials consistent with customer requirements and quality standards to ensure optimum production efficiency and compliance.
  4. Maintains databases, files, and/or electronic publishing systems to track subscriptions, mailing lists, and products submitted for publication. Ensures successful compliance with individual production requirements.
  5. Provides technical computer support services and training to department personnel, as appropriate to the objectives of the position.
  6. May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.
  7. Serves as a liaison between the unit, customers, printers, and/or publishers to determine needs, budget, and reasonable deadlines for projects.
  8. May determine, review, and/or complete job costs; ensures accuracy of all material and service charges. Prepares cash deposits.
  9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Skill in developing design and layout of materials to be published.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to evaluate and edit the content, structure, and format of a range of written material.
  • Database management skills.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and training to end users.
  • Knowledge of printing procedures and requirements.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
