Summary

Administers multiple departments, sets strategic direction, and recommends institutional policy for instructional technology, academic support services, distance education systems, and video production. Coordinates and directs strategic, operational, technical, administrative, human resources, and fiscal planning and implementation for the division. Oversees the activities of managerial, technical, and support staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Directs divisional operations and supervises employees directly through lower level managers and supervisors.
  2. Participates in development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, objectives, short and long range planning; develops tracking and evaluation programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals.
  3. Develops and establishes policies and objectives consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient operation of individual departments.
  4. Consults and coordinates with university officials on matters of policy, interdivisional interaction, and capital improvement issues.
  5. Collaborates with departments and administration to establish goals and priorities for technology solutions to meet institutional instructional technology needs.
  6. Coordinates and/or collaborates with university faculty, committees, departments, programs, and colleges to assess needs, identify available resources, and/or assist with acquiring resources for enhancing teaching and learning through the use of instructional technologies.
  7. Develops and manages annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses; develops and administers budgets and plans for technology development and deployment at the institution.
  8. Recommends, participates in the development of, and establishes university policies and procedures; may serve on university planning and policy-making committees.
  9. Works with statewide consortiums and internal departments to develop plans and procedures for the coordinated delivery of distance education programming; explores and identifies opportunities for sharing systems and technologies, equipment, and expenses.
  10. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Master's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.

  • Ability to coordinate and integrate instructional technologies, distance education, and production systems in higher education environment.
  • Ability to develop and implement short and long range instructional technology and distance education systems, capacity, and operational plans.

  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
