The following statements are intended to describe, in broad terms, the general functions and responsibility levels characteristic of positions assigned to this classification. They should not be viewed as an exhaustive list of the specific duties and prerequisites applicable to individual positions that have been so classified.
Under general supervision, performs non-routine research assignments of substantial variety and complexity under detailed and controlled research, laboratory, or field procedures in physics, astronomy, geology, chemistry, and similar fields; receives objectives and technical advice from investigators. May be assisted by other technicians. Conducts data acquisition, compiles data, and computes results on a variety of scientific procedures and techniques. Independently conducts tests or experiments for scientific projects and provides initial analysis of results to investigators. May specialize in astrophysics, thermodynamics, nuclear physics, meteoritics, or related areas.
