Under general supervision, oversees the day-to-day activities of a digital printing facility including personnel, production, equipment, budget, and recordkeeping.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
  2. Schedules digital printing orders, determines cost effective methods, oversees quality control, and reviews progress and completion of work orders.
  3. Oversees accounting for income and expenditures and billing for services; forecasts trends in facility usage; recommends pricing for services and equipment acquisition.
  4. Performs preventive maintenance and arranges for equipment service; maintains supply inventory.
  5. Responds to inquiries and researches and resolves problems related to transactions handled by the unit; serves as liaison with other constituencies in the resolution of day-to-day administrative and operational issues.
  6. May administer an electronic copy card system and other related services.
  7. Ensures compliance with copyright laws and university policies.
  8. Develops operating goals and objectives for the unit; implements and administers methods and procedures to enhance operations, as appropriate to the unit.
  9. Assists in the annual budget planning process and regularly monitors expenditures.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) functional oversight of all aspects of the day-to-day operations of a centralized University digital printing facility; b) technical and functional supervision of a team of digital printing staff; c) planning, forecasting, accounting, and fiscal management of operations, to include billing for services; d) direct and independent interaction with customers on a day-to-day planning, service, and problem-solving basis; e) participation in the development and implementation of operating policies, systems, and procedures for the unit.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
