Summary

Under general supervision, coordinates customer work orders for reproduction of printed materials. Performs routine equipment maintenance and maintains supply inventory. Oversees production operation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
  2. Schedules digital printing orders, determines cost effective methods, oversees quality control, and reviews progress and completion of work orders.
  3. Receives and prepares jobs for production, to include setup, adjustments, programming and calibration of production equipment, and ensuring maximum quality of production.
  4. Performs preventive maintenance and arranges for equipment service; maintains supply inventory.
  5. Prepares invoices, collects and deposits payments, and records income and expenses in departmental ledgers.
  6. Produces finished job, checks final output to ensure compliance with specifications and standards, and distributes to customer.
  7. Ensures compliance with copyright laws and university policies.
  8. Supervises the daily cashiering activities of the department, including cash and/or credit card receipts.
  9. Responds to inquiries and researches and resolves problems related to transactions handled by the unit; serves as liaison with other constituencies in the resolution of day-to-day administrative and operational issues.
  10. Maintains accurate and complete production records for control and billing purposes.
  11. Participates in the development of operating goals and objectives for the unit; recommends, implements, and administers methods and procedures to enhance operations, as appropriate to the unit.
  12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
  • Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards.
  • Knowledge of cash management principles and/or procedures.
  • Ability to plan work schedules and assign duties; ability to provide or arrange for training.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to interpret customer printing requirements and advise on printing techniques and options.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance according to published guidelines.
  • Knowledge of copyright laws and/or university policies.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
  • Skill in the estimation and control of work flow through the digital printing process.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) functional oversight of all aspects of the day-to-day operations of a centralized University digital printing facility; b) technical and functional supervision of a team of digital printing staff; c) planning, forecasting, accounting, and fiscal management of operations, to include billing for services; d) direct and independent interaction with customers on a day-to-day planning, service, and problem-solving basis; e) participation in the development and implementation of operating policies, systems, and procedures for the unit.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of objects that can weigh up to 50 pounds (or greater mass that require mechanical assistance). Standing or walking may occur up to 40% of time.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
