Summary

Performs routine duties associated with the provision of customer service at athletic and/or other special events, to include ticket-taking, assisting at concessions, attending parking areas, and/or other related activities. Typically works on an on-call basis at specified events.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Takes tickets from customers at entry gates, as appropriate to position.
  2. Provides routine assistance at concession stands as appropriate to position, to include customer service and cash control, transport of food items and supplies, and cleaning and maintenance of equipment and utensils.
  3. Attends parking areas at events, as appropriate to position, assisting patrons with entering and leaving lots, checking parking passes, and in some cases taking parking fees.
  4. Performs various similar duties as required by circumstances at specific events, such as clearing trash from facilities.
  5. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Less than high school; no previous experience required.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to secure and handle cash.
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of parking procedures at special events.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) Providing customer service at athletic and/or other special events, including areas such as ticket-taking, concessions, and attending parking areas; and b) answering routine questions and assisting patrons at events.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
