Summary

Coordinates and assists in job search and placement for students and/or clients of a specific employment program. Maintains confidential client and referral records. Administers job surveys and inventory questionnaires. Delivers and/or coordinates presentations, workshops, and seminars, as appropriate to the position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinates an employment referral program; interviews applicants to determine interests, skills, strengths, and weaknesses; advises on career choices; refers for additional training and experience, when indicated.
  2. Maintains contact with local employers to obtain information on job opportunities, to develop and enhance working relationships, and to facilitate client placement.
  3. Maintains a database of employment possibilities and resource library, including career guidance references, college catalogs, employment literature, and related information.
  4. Assists clients in the job search and advises them on procedures for obtaining employment.
  5. Coordinates or provides training in writing resumes, completing applications, and interviewing.
  6. Ensures strict confidentiality of client records.
  7. May supervise and/or lead lower graded staff and/or student employees.
  8. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of career counseling principles and practices.
  • Database management skills.
  • Ability to supervise and train assigned staff.

  • Assessment and referral skills.

Conditions of Employment

  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the USUNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
