Summary

Oversees, coordinates, and guides on a variety of programs associated with student success within a major, autonomously functioning academic component of the University. Implements programs and initiatives with defined recruitment, retention and graduation outcomes. Provides a variety of student support services such as: recruitment, placement testing, financial aid advising, career advisement, tutoring, accessibility services, early crisis intervention, and academic guidance in collaboration with an Academic Advisor. Implements strategic and operating plans as appropriate to meet the learning and academic success needs of the student population.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Carries out the day-to-day functional operations of the enterprise, to include testing support, career advisement, accessibility services, and academic guidance while ensuring compliance with University policies.
  2. Participates in a variety of programs, services, and initiatives in accordance with the overall mission, strategic goals, objectives, and policies of the organization.
  3. Supports a variety of programs, services, and initiatives associated with student success, to include tutoring, assessment, and testing, academic success workshops, accessibility and at-risk student services, crisis management, and co-curricular education programs.
  4. Implements recruitment programs and marketing strategies relating to targeted student groups (freshman, transfer, or under-represented) in the fulfillment of recruitment efforts.
  5. Evaluates student academic skills development through diagnostic interviews and individual assessment of academic strengths and deficits, to include note-taking, study strategies, time management, test-taking skills, and critical reasoning; interviews, guides, and coaches students to achieve enhanced academic skills development.
  6. Disseminates scholarship and/or non-scholarship student financial aid information to students, answers questions and directs inquiries as appropriate.
  7. Responds to inquiries and issues concerning individual academic performance, and resolves problems regarding the management of student records, as appropriate.
  8. Interprets and ensures the enforcement of academic policies and procedures as they pertain to candidacy for graduation and admission to academic programs.
  9. Participates in the training of course instructors, tutors and/or advisors; and may develop or assist in the development of course curricula, as appropriate.
  10. Implements and maintains operating policies, objectives, and plans; develops procedures, protocols, and systems to assist in the accomplishment of established organizational goals and objectives.
  11. Updates, edits, produces, and distributes educational materials.
  12. Maintains outcomes assessment records and reports.
  13. May perform direct non-therapeutic early crisis intervention as needed.
  14. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  15. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  • Knowledge and understanding of a range of student life issues and concerns.
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
  • Knowledge of management principles and practices.
  • Advanced analytical, evaluative, and objective critical thinking skills.
  • Research, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge of university admissions policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the academic and co-curricular factors leading to student success at the postsecondary level.
  • Knowledge of the unique personal, economic, and social needs of students within the specified population group.
  • Strong data and records management skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of student career and academic guidance principles, methods, and procedures at the college level.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
