Summary

Assists in all functions of the day-to-day support of the Degree Audit System processing for the University. Encodes University and degree requirements, and provides problem analysis and resolutions for end users. Works with faculty and staff to ensure accuracy of data requirements and content, and participates in the development and enhancement of on-line applications. Assists in the resolution of degree audit system problems and issues, and in the preparation and delivery of system training for the University community.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assists in the planning, development, implementation, documentation, administration, and maintenance of the Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS/DARwin) for the University.
  2. Participates in testing and upgrades for the degree audit system.
  3. Participates in the definition and maintenance of the database structure and content for all of the academic requirements including the core UNM requirements, departmental requirements, and college requirements.
  4. Provides technical and functional support to the University-wide community using the degree audit system.
  5. Researches all academic program requirements to encode and maintain degree audit tables and program requirements in the DARS system.
  6. Processes all degree requirement exceptions to academic programs and makes any necessary updates to the student on-line degree audit to ensure the accuracy of the degree audit reports; works with curriculum forms that have been submitted and approved by the Registrar's Office to ensure the correct information is updated.
  7. Works with academic advisors, colleges, departments, and University offices to insure accuracy of requirements and core curriculum data; assists in the resolution of degree audit issues for students, faculty and staff.
  8. Serves as a liaison and works closely with the University's computing center to develop and enhance the performance of the degree audit system.
  9. Prepares appropriate materials to promote the degree audit system to the University community including training materials, handouts, reference guides, and forms.
  10. Conducts monthly training session for University employees on accessing the degree audit system through ePROGRESS.
  11. Assists in the development and administration of operating policies and procedures concerning the degree audit system; advises on applicable rules, regulations, guidelines, and University policies.
  12. Serves as a contact for the University branch campuses using the degree audit system; assists them with knowledge of the degree audit system and provides support if any problems with encoding, exceptions, curriculum and/or degree programs arise.
  13. Maintains currency of professional knowledge; participates in the evaluation of new technologies, and in the implementation of updated versions of the Banner and DARS systems.
  14. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to apply rule sets to complex information, using logic, analytical techniques and deductive reasoning.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to establish priorities.
  • Experience training multiple constituencies.
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and academic program structures in a university setting.
  • Working technical experience with DARS (Degree Audit Reporting Systems), or other on-line degree audit system.
  • Advanced technical knowledge and experience with DARS/DARwin systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with diverse organizations.
  • Experience in training multiple constituencies in a diverse organization.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) Implementation and maintenance of automated degree systems; b) maintaining on-line and training manual documentation; c) providing training for staff/faculty/students on automated degree system and other new technology for the Registrar's office; d) entering academic exceptions and encoding academic curriculum changes; and e) maintaining communications with University units and committees regarding implementation and maintenance of automated degree program.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
