The following statements are intended to describe, in broad terms, the general functions and responsibility levels characteristic of positions assigned to this classification. Under limited supervision, conducts training/development needs analyses and assessments on an organizational, community, and/or individual basis, and develops and implements specified training and development programs and initiatives to meet assessed needs. Provides leadership and guidance to other training and development specialists, instructors, and/or external consultants, as appropriate to specific program objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conducts individual, group, and organization-based training and development needs analyses and assessments.
Based on assessed need, plans, develops, and delivers or coordinates the delivery of individual and/or group training and instructional programs, encompassing a wide range of technical, operational, management, and/or other skills areas.
Develops or oversees the development of training curricula; formulates or reviews training outlines, and determines appropriate instructional methodologies and formats; evaluates and recommends incorporation of vendor programs, as appropriate to meet overall training goals and objectives.
Oversees and coordinates the development and preparation of teaching and visual aids, instructional materials, computer tutorials, and reference materials appropriate to specific program objectives.
As appropriate to the individual position, coordinates, facilitates, and/or conducts specified development activities, such as planning retreats, team building programs, organization analyses, or restructuring exercises.
Evaluates effectiveness of training and development programs and utilizes relevant evaluation data to revise or recommend changes in instructional objectives and methods.
Provides day-to-day guidance and leadership to employee and organizational development consultants and training professionals.
Coordinates work flow and administrative activities necessary to deliver and document unit programs and activities.
Provides input and assists in the planning, assessment, and implementation of organizational goals and objectives, in line with overall university goals and objectives.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Successful completion of at least 60 college-level credit hours; at least 4 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Ability to provide technical leadership to external and internal consituencies.
Knowledge of organization development principles and processes, methods, and techniques.
Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Skills in facilitating and leading strategic planning and organizational development interventions.
Knowledge and understanding of adult learning principles, and of a wide range of training methods, techniques, and formats.
Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
Ability to determine training objectives.
Ability to interpret and assess training and development needs and to develop appropriate and creative responses.
Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of curriculum development and preparation procedures.
Ability to design, develop, implement, and evaluate training plans, curricula, and methodology.
Ability to provide technical leadership to professional staff and/or students in area of expertise.
Position requires: a) independent conceptualization, design, planning, and implementation of broadly-based educational programs that affect multiple departments and/or contituencies; b) coordination and/or project management of staff in multi-faceted projects; c) uitlization of in-depth knowledge of educational development theories and processes; d) provision of guidance and leadership to educational or other technical specialists.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
