Summary

Directs the planning, development, implementation, and management of the various programs and services provided by the New Media & Extended Learning Department. Plans and oversees human resources administration, budget planning, and financial and business management for the enterprise. Acts as strategic project manager to coordinate the analysis, design, programming, implementation and testing of electronic applications and infrastructure to support online teaching and learning. Provides leadership to the NMEL management team in establishing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure the efficient operation of online programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Directs and coordinates the operations, projects, and programs of the unit, ensuring adherence to established project management principles and best management practices.
  2. Directs the translation and communication of organizational service offerings and accomplishments to the University community and, as appropriate, to external constituencies.
  3. Interacts with senior administration, faculty, and staff of client organizations to understand and interpret client needs and to collaborate in meeting those needs.
  4. Develops and implements IT organizational support and consulting services; plans and manages resources necessary to meet current and projected client needs.
  5. Serves as project manager in the planning and coordination of analysis, design, programming, timely implementation, and testing of applications projects in support of online teaching and learning applications used across the university system.
  6. Performs research and development for the integration and implementation of new or revised computer systems/applications technology; develops specifications for scripts needed to fix inconsistencies.
  7. Develops new and maintains existing complex systems and subsystems in support of online courses.
  8. Participates in development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, objectives, short- and long-range planning; develops tracking and evaluation programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals.
  9. Oversees and coordinates the day-to-day activities of technical and support staff, to include work allocation, training, and problem resolution; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  10. Participates as a member of management team in planning, problem resolution, and reviewing department performance.
  11. Develops and manages annual operating budget and provides fiscal direction to the unit.
  12. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  13. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort
