Summary

Enters and verifies database transactions, performs basic physical database design, and maintains database records. Performs routine query functions and generates applicable reports.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Designs, implements, and maintains databases using various software applications.
  2. Designs and runs queries to extract and compile data for reports.
  3. Develops and implements appropriate backup and recovery procedures to ensure database integrity.
  4. Formats and generates reports, including summary, statistical, and/or presentation.
  5. Verifies input data to ensure accuracy of completed work; scans and edits for errors during processing.
  6. Tests and documents work; writes and maintains operator instructions.
  7. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  8. May participate in procurement, installation, and implementation of hardware and software.
  9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Ability to design and run computer systems queries.
  • Knowledge of computer systems backup/data recovery methods and procedures.
  • Ability to verify data input and correct errors.
  • Ability to design and implement systems necessary to collect, maintain, and analyze data.
  • Knowledge of structured programming, testing, and debugging techniques.
  • Ability to write technical instructions in the use of programs and/or program modifications.
  • Ability to format and generate summary, statistical, and presentation reports.
  • Skill in the configuration and use of computerized database programs.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) Proficiency in desktop database design, implementation, and maintenance; b) Designing and generating queries to extract and compile data for reports; c) Testing and documenting work, and d) Verifying data to ensure accuracy of completed work.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
