Summary

Coordinates master staffing schedules for specified inpatient hospital units to provide adequate nursing coverage. Maintains a PRN nursing staff pool.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Maintains a PRN staffing pool, including recruitment, screening, interviewing, checking references, and participating in selection of PRNs; may contact staffing agencies for staff as needed.
  2. Ensures staffing coverage in all specified units 24-hours a day and schedules PRNs as needed; maintains and updates on-going schedules.
  3. Completes and verifies time cards; investigates discrepancies as required; maintains leave records and verifies agency statements.
  4. Coordinates staffing assignments to ensure appropriate and complete coverage.
  5. May train and guide other staff engaged in the same work on other shifts.
  6. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of human resources concepts, practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Interviewing skills.
  • Ability to read, sort, check, count, and verify numbers.
  • Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
  • Organizing and coordinating skills.

Conditions of Employment

  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the USUNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
