Summary

Under the close supervision, guidance and mentorship of University staff and/or faculty, undertakes one or more assigned activities and/or projects of fixed duration requiring the acquisition and/or development of a high degree of knowledge and skill within a defined area of operational, administrative, or technical support specialty. The typical period of employment in this classification may range from 3 to 12 months.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Works with and under consultation of senior faculty and/or staff to develop or participate in the development of new projects or aspects of existing service support projects, as appropriate.
  2. Assists in the planning of assigned project activities.
  3. Uses acquired knowledge and skill to carry out and complete project activities; works with faculty/staff to analyze results.
  4. Summarizes results of projects and activities, and may prepare and present reports as appropriate.
  5. May undertake related academic studies or job enrichment programs as appropriate to the specific internship program.
  6. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Successful completion of junior or senior year of high school.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to successfully interact with faculty and/or staff in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with defined area of operational/administrative/technical specialty.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be age 16 or older at date of hire; must be in the care of a parent or guardian if under the age of 18.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
