Summary

Provides strategic direction, consultation, and support to the university community in addressing in an integrated way the education needs, prospects, and related concerns of women's needs within the region. Provides leadership to university departments, as well as government and community agencies and organizations, in the development and implementation and administration of programs designed to improve retention and graduation rates of women students. Directs a variety of programs and initiatives associated with women's student services. Provides leadership consultation and coordination to university constituents in their various interactions within services to target the women's community. Provides leadership, consultation, and coordination to university constituencies in their various interactions with and services to women and represents both the University and the constituency externally at local, state, national, and international levels, as appropriate.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Plans, develops, and coordinates the implementation and administration of multiple educational programs and support services for women to remove barriers and optimize opportunities for academic success and gender equity; ensures student confidentiality for services provided.
  2. Collaborates on and supports compliance with Title IX, Clery Act, Campus SAVE, VAWA and other federal and state regulations.
  3. Maintains, monitors, and utilizes assessment tools to demonstrate effectiveness of programs established within the Women's Resource Center (WRC) and their impact on retention and graduation of women student populations.
  4. Develops and delivers educational programs and conferences on women's studies, victim advocacy and violence prevention, and intersectional feminist issues, for the University community. May chair or participate in related committees and facilitates the development and coordination of relevant community events on a local, regional or national basis.
  5. Seeks, identifies, and pursues funding opportunities to support institutional initiatives with respect to the needs of supporting women on campus; writes and prepares grant proposals as appropriate.
  6. Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement.
  7. Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization's goals and objectives; oversees recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of unit staff.
  8. Develops and manages annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.
  9. Serves as an advocate and resource on women's issues, cultural pluralism, equity and diversity.
  10. Collaborates with, supports, and mentors student organizations and incubates student-led programming that represents the WRC history, mission, and goals and objectives.
  11. Builds relationships and represents the University to various institutional divisions as well as externally to governmental agencies, community partners, students and their parents, and/or the general public in service to cultivating civic engagement among students, strategic plan goals, and building a strong network and referral system of support services in the community for our students.
  12. Interacts with and provides leadership as appropriate to local, State, and Federal governments, along with national and local organizations and agencies, in the development of solutions to student retention issues at both the college and high school levels.
  13. Collaborates with other campus resources and community partners to address student mental health and well-being, responding to students in crisis, and efforts related to retention for student parents, and other student needs; provides resources and referrals.
  14. Plans, develops, and implements strategies for generating resources and/or revenues for the organization.
  15. Recommends and participates in the development of University policies and procedures; may serve on University planning and policy-making committees.
  16. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  17. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 6 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to develop and produce grants and other proposals.
  • Ability to provide education and serve as an advocate and resource for women's issues, cultural pluralism, equity, and diversity.
  • Advanced analytical, evaluative, and objective critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively summarize and present information.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of women's issues at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
  • Project management and leadership skills.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
  • Knowledge of Title IX, Clery Act, VAWA, Campus SAVE, and other state and federal regulations.
  • Experience with current higher education practices, theory, and research.

  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Employees in this job title are subject to the terms and conditions of an employment contract. Employment contracts are typically subject to review and renewal on an annual basis.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
